Explore ways to make the air we breathe healthier by finding and using methods to lower pollution levels
Every year, air pollution claims millions of lives. There are many poisonous chemicals in the air we breathe every day. To reduce air pollution, everyone should take responsibility1.
A landmark resolution stating that everyone on earth has a right to a healthy environment, including clean air, water, and a stable climate, was adopted by the UN General Assembly. The UN named climate change and environmental damage as two of the most serious threats to humanity. The resolution encouraged all countries to do more to give their people access to a “clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.”2

Following are some of the ways we can act responsibly to ensure we have clean air.
Use Public Transportation/ Carpool3
Using public transport is a definite method to reduce air pollution because it uses less fuel and electricity. Carpooling is an easy and effective way to reduce pollution. By sharing a ride with others, fewer cars are on the road, which reduces the amount of harmful carbon emissions released into the air. This helps decrease air pollution and protects the environment.7

Use Energy Efficient Vehicles
Consider buying fuel-efficient or alternative fuel vehicles. Cars that run on compressed natural gas (CNG), electricity, or hybrid systems release fewer pollutants. Zero tailpipe emissions are produced by all-electric automobiles4.

Afforestation
Plant and raise as many trees as you can. Planting trees has a lot of positive effects on the environment and promotes oxygen release.
By absorbing airborne pollutants and releasing oxygen, trees serve as the planet's natural cleansing mechanism. We need to stop deforestation and plant billions of trees in order to reduce global air pollution.

Conserve Energy
Choose energy efficient appliances and heating systems.
Fossil fuels are used in electricity producing facilities, which considerably contribute to air pollution. Save energy by turning off lights when you leave a room to lower your electricity use.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
If you have the option, buy recyclable things. Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle contribute to reducing the production of solid waste. Reusing products made of materials like glass, plastic, metal, etc. help cut down on air pollution caused by burning waste at landfills. There is also a decrease in the release of other dangerous pollutants from landfills.

Use Renewable Sources of Energy
To avoid the worst effects of climate change, emissions must be minimised.
To do this, we must stop relying on fossil fuels and start using reliable, clean, accessible, and affordable alternative energy sources.
The sun, wind, water, biomass, and heat from the Earth are all abundant sources of renewable energy that replenish themselves naturally with little to no air pollution or harmful gas emissions5.

Glossary
degradation: causing the condition of something to become worse
airborne: carried through the air
biomass: renewable organic material that comes from plants and animals
Summary
Use Public Transportation:Reduces air pollution as public transport uses less gas and electricity.
Use Energy-Efficient Vehicles: CNG, electric, and hybrid vehicles significantly reduce pollution. All-electric vehicles produce zero tailpipe emissions.
Afforestation: Stop deforestation and plant billions of trees to reduce global air pollution.
Conserve Energy: Reduce electricity consumption to minimise the use of fossil fuels and air pollution.
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle: Opt for recyclable products and practice the 3 R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).
Use Renewable Sources of Energy: Sun, wind, water, biomass, and Earth's heat are abundant and naturally replenishing energy sources with minimal air pollution.
